Credit Cards without Debt

by debtguru

Credit cards can be a great tool for managing your finances. When you charge items on your credit card you can download those transactions to Microsoft Money or Quicken and categorize them appropriately. This can be a great tool in managing your finances and keeping track of where you spend your money. Most financial software will let you see how your expense compare to the previous month’s expenses so you can get an idea if your expenses are going up or down.

The trick to using a credit card without going into debt is to pay off the balance at the end of each month. When you do this, it doesn’t cost you anything to use your card. Some cards like American Express only work in this way.

The best way to make sure you are paying off the debt at the end of the month is to treat your credit card like you would a checking account. You just keep track of your expenses and make sure that you don’t go over what you have in the bank. This is where your financial software can come in really handy. If you have it download your expenses every few days, it is easy to see exactly how much you owe without needing to write everything down.

If you can’t control your spending, using a credit card in this way is probably not wise. However if you are able to keep your spending undercontrol, this is a great way to make it more convenient to manage your finances.
