Buying Used to get out of debt

by debtguru

As previously discussed the only real way to get out of debt is to spend less than you make. Most people have more control over their spending than their income, yet when they get into financial difficulties their focuse is all on their income instead of their spending.

One area where you can often reduce your spending is by buying used clothes. The US is full of thrift and second hand stores. Most clothing is manufactured to last much longer than most people keep clothing. Many thrift stores have a good selection of quality name-brand clothes with very little wear. In fact with some careful shopping you can get better quality clothes than you would normally purchase just by getting them used.

You still have to be careful what you spend and focus on getting what you need instead of spending a certian amount of money. For example, if you normally spend $100 per month on clothes and you start spending $100 per month at a thrift store, you won’t really be saving any money. You will end up with many more clothes, but without saving you’ll have no more money to apply to getting out of debt.

Becoming debt free requires a change in your mentality. Buying used clothes can be one step in changing your mentality to help free up funds to pay off high interest debt and put you one step closer to being debt free.
